Working Together

Bio

Tobin caught the photo bug as a 14 year old student abroad while studying in Germany. Later studying  Photography and Design at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. Returned to Seattle to work in the marketing department of Bright Blocks, a toy start up where he implemented a photographic design style to packaging and marketing using the earliest of computer aided design equipment & techniques while directing marketing photoshoots.

Seeing the computer based changes to the design and print industry, he then applied at the Art Institute of Seattle studying modern art and production techniques where he excelled in novel design concepts and adept use of the new technology. After several years freelancing in the highly competitive Seattle market he traded in his camera and tools for a pair of skis and poles and headed to Alta, Utah and the mountain lifestyle.

Finding renewed inspiration on the steep & deep slopes of the Wasatch and revival in the red rock of the desert, Tobin steered a course correction that brought him to Sun Valley, Idaho and the high Sawtooth mountain ranges in the Wilderness of No Return. During this time he instructed himself in the new digital camera technology and computer based editing software still in use today. Freed from the darkroom and its complex chemistry, Tobin breathed new life into his old passion. Soon he was working at Sun Valley Television, first as an Editor and Videographer then as a Producer, Director and Writer.

Noted for producing several featurettes on Sun Valley history, working with notable local personalities on guides to the local lifestyle, photographing events for broadcast and directing live TV shows. Tobin's freelance work also included producing the valleys first documentary on the affordable housing crisis and contributing his editing skills to the Warren Miller film “Storm”.

“My lifestyle now brings me to the beautiful Camas Prairie in Fairfield, Idaho where I teach skiing and most recently joined the Ski Patrol at Soldier Mountain. I still combine skiing and shooting action images around the Soldier Mountain area.

The mountains call to me and my art follows me wherever I go”.
